nice, what did you do?
Accidentally commented on a subreddit I was banned from another account. Quickly deleting it still didn’t work. The mods reported it to the admins, thus you know.
How did they even know it was you? Do you have them linked, did you mention you were banned, or do you not use VPNs?
That rule always seemed to me basically unenforceable.
Reddit collects a lot more user login data than you think. They most definitely know exactly what unique machine you’re using to log in regardless of IP.
I’ve often wondered how this works when people use generic computers like macbooks. I’ve been banned from subs before but because I make a new account like once a year I just end up back there commenting eventually and I haven’t ever been banned again.
Just your browser already gives away a ton about you. See here: https://amiunique.org/fp
Out of 2,000,000 fingerprints my browser is unique (well, I do use Firefox). So in theory a website owner could identify me just based on that. No IP needed.
Perhaps, but I could get around their bans just fine.
I didn’t pay much attention to it because it was around the blackout, and I’ve generally avoided Reddit since, but there was something about a new tool being released to help combat ban evasion. Though I didn’t see more than the title because, yeah, blackout. I just chalked it up to a quick improvement to pander at mods.
Admins did the impossible: They gave mods unevadable ban evasion filter, while their own suspensions are at least possible to evade, I heard it from random users.

From the look of that screenshot, they weren’t using the reddit app though.
You need to move to a third party app. Found out the hardway. Called out a few shitty mods and boom. Account permanently banned.
Lost my nfts and my moons.
Made a new account and after 3 days it was locked. Had only been accessing via third party but fuck em. Glad to be rid of reddit

How does one get this badge of honor?
