    It’s handy for airplane boarding passes and gift cards (besides mobile payment), but if you have to carry the ID anyway, seems kinda superfluous

      Yeah, this pretty public beta-ish if you still need your physical ID in a lot of places.

        There’s no law that I’m aware of that requires you to carry some kind of ID, but it’s required if you’re driving or buying something that’s age restricted (like alcohol). It’s often convenient to be carrying ID at all times.

        But there’s no point in digitizing your ID like this if the digital version isn’t a valid surrogate. Sounds like it’s as “valid” as taking a photo of it.

          Interesting, thanks. I had no idea it would be required when driving, but I guess that’s probably the same for a lot of places.

    For those interested, this feature is only available for US Driver’s Licenses and State IDs in the following states:

    • Arizona
    • California
    • Colorado
    • Georgia
    • Maryland
