I bought two as gifts for my teenage boys. They work fine, except for the heartbeat measurement which was comically off, at least it was on that version of the software.

There was an Android app called GadgetBridge which was really useful for a lot of the PineTime setup/maintenance/interfacing. I’d suggest checking that out.

The wrist bands that come with the PineTime are the first wrist bands on a smart watch or fitness tracker that did not irritate my skin (even after wearing it 24/7 for weeks to months at a time only taking it off to shower and charge) in a very long time. The original band lasted much longer than I expected it to, but it eventually broke. Finding replacement bands that are compatible with the PineTime is pretty easy, but I haven’t found a replacement that also doesn’t irritate my skin. Given the price of a new PineTime, I should stop searching for new bands, which usually aren’t much cheaper than a new PineTime, and just purchase another PineTime.

One thing that I did not expect is the positive comments and questions about the PineTime from people when I wear it out. I think most people assume its an Apple Watch due to its shape.

There are definitely many shortcomings to the PineTime, particularly the PineTime’s lack of features and functionality compared to other modern smart watches. If you’re aware of that and appreciate its benefits like open source, long battery life, and low price, then you’ll love the device.

gadgetbridge for android is amazing also itd for linux is great. I would say don’t use lift to wake as it’s a bit too sensitive IMO and drains your battery super fast. Know that some apps like the stop watch get interrupted by notifications so when using those apps I turn notifications off. Same for the timer app it has the some indication vibration as a notification so you should turn off notifications when using that app. Long press on the wallpaper to get options to change the color schemes and such. Such a cool feature I like to change my color schemes a few times a week. Don’t forget to put the watch in sleep mode when you sleep otherwise it will be vibrating all night and the screen will keep turning on. Not required but I keep an eye on the github repo to see what issues are being reported and so that I know when new releases drop. Also when you first get the watch be sure to update to the latest release.
