Sure. But Window’s itself already has Kernel level access. So, I feel like if you’re running Windows the issue of some gaming company having kernel level access is much less concerning to me than a genocide supporting software weapons manufacturer.

Like, I’m against the gaming companies having kernel access. But if you’re running Windows in 2025 you’re already sharing all of your data with one of the most malicious companies that exists. Microsoft is currently on the level of the many American companies that worked with the Nazis. I guess my point is that Riot having access to my keystrokes is the least of my concerns if I’m on Windows.

Edit: Speaking as a former Microsoft employee.

  • Only if the American people keep having this same reaction and don’t realize that a government run by and for the rich pedophiles will only ever operate this way. It’s meant to give you just enough, not to make you think something is being done, but to cynically remain passive and going to your job.

New war, country run by pedophiles, genocide reaching it’s final solution, neighbors being rounded up and disappeared, nothing is affordable, your boss is an app, and the phone you’re reading this from you don’t even own, it’s on a buy now pay later plan.

Like, I think history will have a hard time explaining the doomerism and passive inaction of Americans during this time. Usually populations that remain so inactive to their own oppression are driven by some material benefit over others or at least a false narrative of one. But Americans are just literally eating shit and going “damn, guess we’ll have to hope the shit eating machine lets us vote for a reduced rate of shit in 2026”.

Heads are usually rolling at this point of ruling class oppression.

  • I feel like numbers at this point just are pointless. It’s like, can we use vocabulary that actually describes the situation instead of updating this every time the decimal point shifts?

Describing it in terms of wealth is kind of dumb. It gives the idea that the systems that caused this (Imperialism, colonialism, capitalism) are the solution. Like, the global South just needs “investment”. The numbers are this bad because of a century of western “investment” in its exploitation the global South.

There isn’t a number attached to this that somehow fixes the problem when we reach it. This is about what essentially amounts to slavery and subjugation of the majority of this planet. The language of these news articles is so passive. Like it’s describing the amount of stars in the galaxy.

  • As someone that grew up with an “unmonitored” internet. I can say that it was significantly more healthy than the profit driven “keep watching” algorithm that is all of social media today.

Yeah. I saw “two girls one cup” and “lemon party”. But, did I slowly have my perspective of reality changed by the 30 second videos I swiped on for hours at a time for days on end?

No, most of my time was spent learning about computers, “stealing” music, and chatting with my real life friends.

I don’t think a kid today can experience that internet anymore. It’s gone. But acting like “unmonitored” internet access is worse is pearl clutching and ignoring the fundamental problems the profit driven internet has created at the expense of societies mental health.

Kids will absolutely find another place to connect online in Australia. But, honestly, I think whatever that is will be healthier than the absolute brain rot that is profit driven social media.

We got to this point because parents think that kids need a monitored internet. Afraid of online predators. So it was passed off to corporations that learned how to systematically institute mental abuse in order to keep their apps open longer.

  • Was in this position at Microsoft for two years. I already hated them because I ended up working for them after they acquired my smaller company. Pennies on the dollar, massive layoffs beforehand, fired literally all the most important people (which is why I wasn’t fired, I really am just trying to collect a paycheck and do nothing more).

Anyway, ended up basically being placed in a middleman position that I quickly realized didn’t need to exist. Basically, spent two years slowing down communication between my companies team and the existing Microsoft team. Literally, I just kept the two teams from directly communicating and going through me for everything. I think I wrote less than 1000 lines of code during that time.

And no, I didn’t like my team either from the original company. They were all new hires prior to us being acquired and they fired everyone on my team that had worked on the project for nearly 5 years. So, didn’t feel bad about slowing them down either.

Basically a shitty startup that milked it’s employees with hopes of Microsoft becoming our customer. Encouraging people to exercise their options only to sell the company for pennies on the dollar and fire them.

Got through two years of slowing down an awful genocide supporting company before the layoffs finally got me.

    Was a good run.

Sometimes I think Marx was just the first “conspiracy theory loving podcast bro” but he didn’t have any of the material to distract him. He also was very privileged and did not have to spend his entire life delivering Taco Bell for Uber Eats. But for some reason he still had that same fundamental need to find an explanation for what we all feel so strongly today. It’s punching us in the face.

Like, Marx gets a lot of credit because he and Engels wrote the best criticisms that have stood the test of time. But, if you lived in that time, most writings were about class conflict in some form. Hell, the “father of capitalism” (Adam Smith) was even extremely critical of obvious contradictions and was very critical of landlords.

As soon as the land of any country has all become private property, the landlords, like all other men, love to reap where they never sowed, and demand a rent even for its natural produce.

The last century has been mostly about trying to scare the working class into submission. Pointing to “failures” of socialism as if they existed in a bubble; and not the reality of every necessary resource of the capitalist class going to fighting it.

This is primarily done in developing nations. The US ensures it installs dictators or makes the conditions of the countries impossible through embargos (Cuba/DPRK). But in the US it’s mostly controlled by distractions. The conspiracy theories, toys, drugs, etc.

But the imperial core control is failing. And, my hope, is even if we don’t see progress in the west. That the internal chaos we experience will finally allow the nations the west oppresses to break free.

The alienation we feel needs to be understood in this context. We hate our jobs because they serve no other purpose but to allow us to afford the available distractions we are allowed. Distractions that are becoming less and less meaningful as our material conditions decline and we become more connected to all workers of the world.

  • If all American foreign policy just disappeared the world would be at a net positive overnight - and it’s not even close.

3 years of us arming Ukraine, encouraging them to NOT negotiate (when they had much better position to previously than they do now), and then abandoning them once we finished dumping all our weapons. America was proud to fight to the last Ukrainian.

Russia is like the bullie that punches you in the face.

America is like the bullie that spends weeks pretending to be your friend just so they can steal your lunch money, humiliate you in front of your friends, and then push you into the other bullie that’ll punch you in the face for bumping into them.

Also, Trump just puts a blunt face to what America has always been. Foreign wars in this country are bipartisan. Ukraine would be just as fucked if Harris was president. She’d just have a better narrative for it to make Americans feel less guilty for the fucked up way we treat our “allies”.

  • mkv and mp4 are the container not the codec. It’s a bit more complicated than just the file extension. You likely have more luck with mkv because of just more consistency as mkv is used more often when the file is meant to be played locally and not streamed.

So, you’re right. But just looking at the container isn’t going to ensure compatibility. The codec is significantly more impactful on whether playback is supported. That’s the part that’s literally taking the compressed video data and decoding it into viewable pixels/frames you see on your screen.

I’ve never downloaded an mkv that wasn’t just standard h264 or h265. So it’s still a good bet. But h265 is less universal and much more CPU intensive for playback (because it has significantly better compression).

  • I’m not a gun person so maybe I was just fooled by a video. I also probably don’t use the right terms so forgive me.

But it was awhile back; one video I saw of a guy showing how he was clearing the chamber of a pistol. Pulled it back from a full clip and counted each one. He counted 8 (which was expected for the size). Kept clearing it while nothing came out. Asked the viewer “Clear? Nope. Did you notice what’s wrong”?

Pulls the gun back to show the bullet still visually in the chamber.

Apparently it was a pistol with a recall or common issue of not correctly clearing the last round. He had an additional bullet chambered at the start so he counted the clip size but the pistol had 9 rounds initially with one still completely capable of firing at the end.

Like, he literally pulled it back and cleared it like 20 additional times. Bullet still just sitting there at the end.

Will try to find the video.
