The actress who plays Rose is transgender and, based on a line from Donna in The Giggle, so is Rose. That suggests that Donna didn’t name her Rose, she chose it for herself.

So is it a coincidence? Is there some significance?

It would be interesting if they revisited it.

Presumably similar to how the plushies she made were based on Donna’s time with the doctor, the name Rose probably comes from that too

I forgot about that. That would add to the mystery. I really like Rose, so I hope she comes back anyway. She was definitely underused.

So it was said in the show about her choosing her own name (a lot like any Trans person does) and it’s assumed due to her having the knowledge of the doctor in the back of her mind as well as Donna’s she chose it due to Rose being one of the Doctors most loved Companions. Hope you enjoyed the episodes like I did.

Sadly it doesn’t look likely unless they started a show for ‘unit’ the company in the other episodes of the specials. Where they could have Donna, Rose and the Doctor fight threats to earth from a modern day stance, sort of like Sarah Jane Adventures.
