Set in a dystopian city plagued by crime and corruption, the story revolves around three superheroine vigilantes who band together to defeat an evil, baby-snatching eunuch.
How does a 1990’s movie become the forerunner to 1970’s "Charlie’s Angels?’
Quibbles aside, it looks great.
Fun fact : Charlie’s Angel’s was a rip off of The Doll Squad (now on Tubi)
TIL
I have a feeling that they’re talking about the Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu starring movie… ;)
Oh, it is great! A bit convoluted, but great nonetheless.
But you do realize that the Drew Barrymore version was based on a 1970’s TV show?
There’s a subtle dig in the first scene when 5 foot 2 inch tall Drew [disguised as 6 foot 3 inch LL Cool J] talks smack about 'T.J. Hooker - The Movie"
Jesus, relax. Everyone gets it. It was a 90s tag line for, checks notes… a B-Movie. That’s part of B-Movie charm.
Jesus, relax. Everyone gets it. It was a comment in a B-movie thread. That’s part of Bmovie Bonanza’s charm.
Oh, I do! I’m not sure the person at Cinescape does?
A badass fantasy-actioner directed by the great Johnnie To. The Heroic Trio consists of:
The always brilliant Michelle Yeoh as Invisible Girl.
The fabulous Anita Mui (RIP) as Wonder Woman.
The adorable Maggie Cheung as Thief Catcher.
A beautiful boxset! The sequel is severely meh, sadly enough.
The movie is also streaming on The Criterion Channel.
Makes you wonder when Saviour of the soul will get a BD release. I love that movie too!
I have no doubt some hip boutique label will eventually release it. I’m not sure I will buy it, however, since it’s a bit too silly for my taste. 😅
