The world’s best target shooters under a very specific and particular set of circumstances, usually indoors. It’s like you’re trying to insult me for not being impressed at the driving skills of the world’s best indoor go-kart racers.

Like every single olympic sport can only be performed in a very specific and particular set of circumstances. What is this bizarre gatekeeping?

It’s like if they wanted to have motorsports in the Olympics but they only did go-karts and 49cc motorcycles. The people who show up to compete will be talented, but they aren’t driving F1 or MotoGP.

What do you mean? Why is more power in the equipment being used automatically better? Shooting is a test of accuracy. I’m sorry you see sports through such a boring lens but most of us don’t. And in any case, that’s just your opinion of what you are more entertained by - there’s no need to disparage the sport and disrespect the athletes just because you’re not personally interested in it.

            What do you mean?

Olympic shooting is so specialized and restricted that you can no longer claim its champions are the best in the world at the general sport of shooting.

Why is more power in the equipment being used automatically better?

Because more power is required to reach the distances where everything matters more.

Shooting is a test of accuracy.

Uh-huh. Do I really need to explain how one degree of error is a bigger issue at 1000 meters vs 50?

there’s no need to disparage the sport and disrespect the athletes

When OP is implying my tribe can’t shoot I take it as disrespect and I’m compelled to belittle the competition itself in response.

You could equally say that the javelin is restricting throwing, and that javeline athletes can only perform in their specific area. Like yeah - no shit. It’s a sport. It’s like looking at darts and saying “it’d be better if they fired them from a crossbow at 200m”. Like okay yeah maybe you’d find that more entertaining but that would be a different sport which you’re welcome to go enjoy.

Because more power is required to reach the distances where everything matters more.

I’m not even sure what that means. Why does it “matter more”? Those in the athletic field of shooting have decided that this is best for a recreational shooting competition. Same as every other sport in the Olympics. Go watch something else if it doesn’t interest you, doesn’t make the sport bad or the athletes less talented.

Uh-huh. Do I really need to explain how one degree of error is a bigger issue at 1000 meters vs 50?

No shit. But if everyone is shooting from the same distance then it’s a level playing field so it doesn’t matter and it’s still a valid competition. There are different skills for different types of weapons and ranges.

When OP is implying my tribe can’t shoot I take it as disrespect and I’m compelled to belittle the competition itself in response.

It’s a meme about the notoriously gun crazy country coming last in shooting. It’s not that deep. And let’s not even get into “my tribe” haha

No, I’m trying to suggest that if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. What’s the point in telling everyone why Olympic athletes don’t impress you?

I didn’t watch it, but I did run across some bullshit on the Internet implying that the Chinese dominating ping pong somehow means the US can’t compete at Tennis.

Yeah, absolutely. They’re the world’s best Candy Land players while we’re playing Catan or some shit over here.

I’m not going to win a cup stacking competition anytime soon either, but that doesn’t mean I have to take it seriously as a sport and respect the competitors.
