everyone should read that book Propaganda by Eddie Bernays

it goes deeper than just one-sided stories–there’s a specific reason, even back in 2015, one of the first things trump started doing was demonizing the press, with “fake news” and “enemy of the people” etc. if GOP takes over (whether by election or otherwise), there will be no more news outlet that isn’t run by the state

In the 1920s, Joseph Goebbels became an avid admirer of Bernays and his writings – despite the fact that Bernays was a Jew. When Goebbels became the minister of propaganda for the Third Reich, he sought to exploit Bernays’ ideas to the fullest extent possible. For example, he created a “Fuhrer cult” around Adolph Hitler.

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.
