Anyone who doubts whether the GOP is still Donald Trump’s party should watch last night’s Republican candidate debate. From the positions staked out to the aping of some of Trump’s signature catchphrases, even in absentia, Trump loomed largest onstage.
Well, the voters are very much Trump voters, and the candidates know that. Whoever hopes to win the nomination has to win over Trump’s voters.
By and large, those voters don’t give a flying crap about the GOP or how it’s run. They either want a bully who will stick it to brown people and LGBTQ and women, or they are thrill voters who will vote for anybody that will cause a ruckus while singing “America, Fuck Yeah!”
There’s a way forward that only Chris Christy is sort of taking. That’s out trumping trump. If one of the candidates became an even bigger asshole and bully than trump, they say a decent number of his followers.
Trump supporters love him because he called Ted Cruz’s wife ugly. If no candidate can sink to that level they have no chance of toppling trump.
America should abolish key racial segregation policies at the federal level.
Elaborate. To what policies do you refer, and how would abolishing them move control of the GOP to non-Trump voters?
