    The death count is terrible. And, from what I’ve read, it’s going to become more common, which is doubly terrible.

    Sorry, but why is the death count so high this time around?

    If this was already covered in the article, please forgive me. I cannot read the article because I am illiterate, except for this paragraph which I have memorized.

      It wasn’t really.

      Outside of Florida being Florida, it looks like Helene hit inland a lot harder than previous hurricanes. Usually hurricanes lose a lot of their energy by the time they hit the Appalachian Mountains. So you’ve got a lot of mountain regions dealing with the worst flooding they have ever seen.
