My approach as an inexperienced cook is double the time.
I love the recipes that rely on pre-prepared steps to hit their timeframes.
Ingredients:
- Julienne cut carrots, blanched
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups pasta, cooked al dente
Not even just regular recipes that get the time wrong, my microwaveable ramen bowls say “ready in 3 minutes” But microwaving for 3 minutes is the third step in the instructions, which then go on to tell you to let it stand for 1 minute before adding the last spice packet. It can’t be ready in 3 minutes unless I somehow break the laws of time or physics. I know it’s the most trivial peeve, but would it hurt them to say ready in 5 minutes?
“The package said 5 minutes, so I microwaved it for 5 minutes. Why is my ramen burnt?”
Prep time, five minutes, includes cooking onions down to golden goodness. Riiiight, 5 minutes, liars.
You mean you don’t have someone at home who will saute your onions for you in advance? Plebian…
Sounds about right to me, give or take 25 minutes.
