I like Lemmy/Piefed/Mbin/threadiverse because it is smaller in size. You get to know the prolific posters, and the non-bot ones will often respond to comments.
You don’t feel lost in a sea of 1000 comments for any particular thread.
If you run or post regularly in a small niche community, then there’s a chance a couple people will interact with it regularly.
Oh and the decentralization means that if your home server’s offline the other community (sublemmies more or less) will still work.
The jerks on this site are pretty easy to find, report and block to quiet down your feed.
