Israel’s foreign ministry said that the flotilla was warned by the navy that it was approaching an active combat zone and violating a “lawful naval blockade”, and asked organisers to change course. It offered to transfer the aid to Gaza, the foreign ministry said.
are blockades of defenseless people ever lawful?
Yes.
Total blockades aren’t which is why they do these entry attempts. They aren’t even supposed to detain anyone because disallowing noncombatants entry is specifically illegal. They can board search and seize weapons and enemy combatants legally but basically nothing else or it becomes unlawful.
Ed: to answer the question Israel detains them, removes them to a port (a Palestinian one oddly enough), charges them civilly in a country they never entered, holds them in prison in Israel and deports them illegally and without consent (trafficking). If you’re curious they’ve been detained and deported I think at least twice before during this blockade.

They threatened Greta for repeated “violations” of trying to feed starving people.
Yep, they’re just making it very clear that the blockade is extremely illegal.
there’s tiktok videos of the sumud flotilla people radio-ing this response when the idf orders them to stop and the idf literally acts like they can’t hear them. lol
