Curious to know, I’d heard “lemming” used in a semi derogatory way, since “a person who unthinkingly joins a mass movement, especially a headlong rush to destruction” is the dictionary definition. It seems to be the first thing to come to mind as to what you’d call a Lemmy user.

This platform certainly is embodying a mass movement to get off of reddit, and I’m definitely all for it! But I can’t help but feel this could be one of those baby names that sounded cute and catchy but could be bullied later into life. What are your thoughts?

I only knew lemmings from the cute creatures of the game of the same name. I meant speaking it out loud to refer to someone . Imagine a big horror youtuber using lemmy as a reference in his videos the same way they do for reddit. He’s trying to set an oppressive feeling throughout the video but you hear him say : the lemming potatoinmyshoe said that the black mold OP was inhaling is extremely dangerous and could destroy his lungs.

You won’t feel that way when Lemmy gets more famous. For example, let’s say I create a new popular social media app called “Mikavrons”. “Mikavronian” would feel like nonsens. Not to mention “Reddit” is also a funny name, like it’s just “read it”.
