It’s a rather niche role which is why I kept things vague since I wouldn’t be hard to dox if I got into specifics, but yeah they do still exist. Hope your search goes well! And thanks!!
I do appreciate it. I’ll call my role technical consulting too to keep things rather vague. My boss, and his boss, and his boss are VERY in-tune to the work/life balance. And the company as a whole has zero plans to get people into offices as they were very remote-first well before the pandemic. Hell my team is spread out across the US so it’s not like I would be able to see any of them in-person anyway. When I took this position in May I had to make a list of where everyone was located to keep track of timezones, lol.
Bold of you to assume he had a soul.
Gotcha, yeah I don’t have a ton of data which is why I said I was likely in the minority. I do appreciate the insights though as my current position is only guaranteed through 2026 because of our project. Hopefully we get more projects and it continues but it’s good to know that the industry is (unsurprisingly) screwing over more and more salaried employees.
I’m probably well in the minority here but I’m curious how true that statement is across the board. Or maybe I just work for a great team, lol. I rarely put in more than about 30-35 a week with exceptions of crunch-time deadlines. I do pull some odd hours because we have a team in India but can just take comp time later in the day or week to offset that. I’m paid (by most standards I know) quite well too.
That said, this is great for the folks that will benefit! I really hope this helps push for a larger reform. Far too many people are getting screwed over by shit jobs, shit hours, shit pay, shit benefits, etc…
I’ve heard that before but really wonder if it’s true. My last encounter with (I believe Mormons though it’s been a LOT of years ago) was while we were eating dinner. The front door was open with the glass storm door closed. They came to the door, knocked, then stared at us while we were eating dinner as a family. We stared back and they proceeded to knock another 3 times before leaving. I mean, regardless of what you are at the door for that’s just rude as fuck so how would they expect a nice response?!
For me it’s anyone that comes to my doorstep trying to sell something (including religion). To get to that point you have to walk past TWO “no soliciting” signs. That makes the person blind, incompetent, or both.
I was in Deadwood SD this summer, I’ll have to check out the series. Thanks for the suggestion!
Usually around 74F in the summer but I’ll bump it if the temps outside hit the mid 90s. 64 in the winter, I like it cold. I run a portable AC in the master bedroom during the summer while we sleep. Bit of a story there.
It’s probably an unpopular opinion but I’m going to say it anyway. Trump needs brought to justice and this country needs a “come to jesus moment.” As shitty as it sounds, I don’t see a way forward WITHOUT violence. Trump is a symptom, not a cause. He just managed to push things harder and faster than those before. Something is going to come to a head, and it’s not going to be pretty, but I don’t think we as a country can truly heal until that happens.
Consider that my $0.02 after drinking on a Friday night, lol.
is calling for investigations into the group’s top leader and its financial practices
Ahh, so always grifting, makes sense.
I feel super-owned!
Not yet, his plane landed in Atlanta about 10 minutes ago. Live updates here if you are so inclined: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2023/aug/24/trump-georgia-fulton-rally-republican-debate-politics-live-updates
I’ve got the 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 - who’s bringing popcorn?
Was going to suggest this. Github even has native support for them so you just plug it in and touch the gold pad for your second form. Even easier than a TOTP code.
Definitely more dramatic than I expected, but yeah it was only a matter of time. Rather surprised it took at long as it did really.
I was going to say, coal remains around 1/3 of our electric generation worldwide (as of 2022): https://www.statista.com/statistics/269811/world-electricity-production-by-energy-source/
Coal can’t be reused, created, or otherwise obtained outside of mining. Until we remove our dependency on coal, mining will continue.
