  • Oh boy.

    Everything everywhere all at once.

And I did like it to a point but absolutely don’t see it as the phenomenon that was presented as. I saw it as a good film that lacked nuance and subtlety, instead of leaving stuff for the viewer to discern it rather just loudly announcing with bright signs ‘This is profound, we are very artistic’. While the quirkiness and comedy were fun, it always felt to me like if marvel had suddenly decided to make an indie film, with all the good and bad that carried.

Obviously I was shunned by everybody else so what the hell do I know lol.

  • I wouldn’t use a complete macos theme with the logo and everything, but the mac design language does have some pretty nice details that even help usability.

For example, I love the double outline that macos windows have, the normal darker line and another lighter inside. To me, it really separates windows when I am working with several, and they overlap (I use mac at work), in addition to looking nice and giving some depth. That’s just a little detail, but there are many like that one that is easy to see why someone could appreciate them.

Obviously it varies from person to person, there’s also stuff that I don’t like, but I do can see why someone would use a theme like that.

  • That’s great to see. Audible is one of the very few services I pay for even knowing how bad it is to reward its creators. Whenever I can, I try to look for an alternative but ultimately audible just has everything.

So even if there’s still much to be done and not a trustworthy company, it’s good to at least see some improvement.

Also kudos to Sanderson, he gets a lot of flak on the snobbish reading circles but not everyone would have done what he did. He’s got a heavy position in the industry and used it for the benefit of many others.

  • I’m in the same situation. What has worked for me to make me engage more is the opposite, I subscribed to a bunch of smaller communities about my interests and then I feel more compelled to comment something on a post that I know about.

Sometimes there’s not much conversation happening but at least I’m providing what I know or my opinion, and ‘rewarding’ the poster for providing interesting content, even if that has not much quantifiable value for them.

I also switched my default feed to my subscriptions instead of All, that way I see less active posts instead of the super popular ones where everything has already been said hours ago.

  • Hey I have The Wager in my list, but right now I’m reading The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber, it’s excellent. Going really slow because it contains so much information, I read a few pages and that sends me in a research spiral for an hour and a thoughts spirals for the day.

Didn’t uninstall any of my AdBlock layers, but YouTube didn’t survive.

Even though I actually never saw the famous popup, the whole thing made me take steps after months of feeling that the recommendations sucked and I was often wasting lots of time watching stuff I didn’t even like.

Now I’m actually getting back into reading and audiobooks, and using invidious for the occasional watch.
