I wouldn’t blame that on old age. I work with tards in their 20s and 30s who I’ve personally witnessed use caps lock instead of shift to capitalize one single letter at the beginning of a sentence. They also use the mouse to click in the text box that already has a blinking cursor to enter their username and then use the mouse again to select the password box instead of just using the tab key.

Road speed, accelerator position, brake pedal position, number of seatbelts buckled or not, GPS position and heading, time since key on and probably at least a dozen other parameters I can’t think of off the top of my head are all being recorded. Those certainly are personal data that can and will be used against you in the event of a crash.

If they have airbags and ABS they know a shitload more than you think.

I’m still running a DS414 filled with WD Red drives. I’ve only swapped out one of the drives as it was starting to have issues. I’ve considered upgrading for more features (Docker, Home Assistant etc) but can’t justify the expense just for “nice to have” instead of “need”. Realistically it only stores Linux ISOs that I get with Download Station.

“Pay yourself first”. My bank has a feature that allows me to setup automated money transfers to and from different accounts based on rules I setup. The most important one is when any deposit is received from my employer, 20% of the amount is automatically transferred from my chequing account to my retirement account. My paycheque is deposited overnight and the money is already “gone” by the time I wake up in the morning. Treat it like another tax on your income that you have no way to avoid paying. Then live off what’s left.

It’s not free but it’s a damn good app and will do what you want and so much more. The part I like the most is that it doesn’t just show signal strength but it also shows noise and SNR. Super helpful.

Hmmm. I wonder what this means for something like a boot allowance? My employer thinks a pair of CSA steel toe boots still costs $100. Any real boots that won’t make your feet bleed after a couple hours will set you back $250+ and when you wear them all day every day for work you’re lucky to get a whole year out of them.

I bought one of these a couple years ago and it still lasts 12+ hours streaming internet radio from my iPad at work. Sounds great for background music in a shop. I love how sturdy it feels and the handle is great. I call it “Nintendo plastic” cuz it feels indestructible like the OG Nintendo controllers.

Just to clarify… I work 12hr shifts and it still has about 40% battery left at the end of the day.

Here’s a little photographic evidence to backup my claims re. food. Here you will find extremely common products that are available in every supermarket/grocery/convenience store all across Canada. A Canadian pound of butter 454g (didn’t realise this brand still has imperial on the label), 2.5 cups of Gatorade 591ml, 3 cups or 1.5pints of Coca-Cola 710ml, 6 cups or 3 pints of flavoured coffee creamer 1.42L, and last but not least, 1 pint of salad dressing 475ml. Obviously it was orders of magnitude cheaper and easier to update the label than to change all the bottles and other various containers and manufacturing processes.

I forgot to mention another thing about our timeline. “Metrication” in Canada only started officially at the government level in 1970. The scientific community used it long before that but definitely not the average citizen and not the government. It will take several generations to finally get rid of it here, if ever. Cuz ‘Murica next door.

If you really want to hear something sad… we buy butter in bricks of 453g which are actually just 1lb bricks that were relabeled. Same goes for jugs of certain liquids. There’s no such thing as a 4L jug of milk or juice or even motor oil. We have 1gal jugs that are labeled and contain 3.79L of product.

45 metric years. I was born in QC and started out the right way. Never even heard of imperial till my family moved to ON. I’m also fluent in 24hr timekeeping, none of that AM/PM bullshit for me.
