They exist on Lemmy. If they are labeled and serve a useful function they are generally not a problem. I find people with Alts or those that use AI to respond to people more annoying honestly.

Honestly though, most of our problems are not driven by our economic system so much as our culture. You have to face that just about everyone worships greed whether they like to admit it or not.

In the US it is extremely pronounced and we even have idolized phrases about it like “fuck you money”. Where you have enough money that you can do whatever you want and you no longer have to follow the rules.

There is obvious a problem with our culture, but it is not just the US. Fascism is pretty much everywhere and even the most progressive countries still have huge wealth gaps that are always slowly widening.

Democracies cannot exist with large wealth gaps unless the wealth is aggressively kept out of politics. This is extremely hard and that is why the majority of all policies in all governments all over the world are driven by corporations.

The US was founded by the rich for the rich. Anything else is just convenient propaganda to convince the masses otherwise.

There are definitely valid criticism about the EU and its many processes. The bureaucracy, undemocratic representation, and issues around sovereignty are just a few to name.

Having said that, they have done far more to reign in our digital future than anyone else. So it is not all bad.

I also agree that stringent wealth caps must be policy. This is not even controversial at this point. In the US we tried trickle down. It has been a dramatic failure.

I think this could have been done twenty years ago, but it is never too late to invest in our collective software future instead of letting corporations monopolize everything.

As far as social media, they will have to comply or exit the market. I would be wary of places like Zombie Twitter. They have already been proven to interfere with elections in other countries.

We can totally agree to disagree but the way the current Chinese government came to power was very brutal. We are talking 2 to 40 million dead depending how you calculate the loss of life.

No country is perfect and China is far from one.

I find it strange you would attribute the rise of China to their internal policies as opposed to the reality of them taking advantage of US and other foreign investments. China is great because of the US not despite it.

You sound like someone who is a pick me for China. This often happens when westerners get disillusioned with the US. Which I think is easy to do. They will look into some other country to latch onto.

For instance, I am guilty of looking up to some Western European countries policies and idealizing them. I was once also very enamored with socialism. I still am in a lot of ways.
