This works for situations where exact positioning isn’t too important. When want to have AoE spells, move speed, flanking, and battlefield control, it generally because difficult to ensure that the GM and the players have the same picture of the battlefield. Even just drawing it out roughly can help a lot, but pure theatre of the mind really works best when you only care about distance rather than relative positioning and complex battlefield conditions.

If it applies to DnD’s cosmology, than it has to mean with viable offspring, because half-dwarves canonically exist in the Darksun setting and they’re called Muls.

GIF, or Graphics Interchange Format, is just another image format, even if it can support animation. In particular, it’s an image format that works well for images with simple palettes, and was presumably chosen by this artist because it fit their art style…

The graphic novel that inspired it actually started life as a webcomic, and if I remember had on-screen deaths which the movie didn’t. Notably, Nimona is actually a killer, which may change the tone of some of her character moments for some readers.

Same as @HelixDab, System Shock would be bad, but as a regular person living in the world I could make it for $20 million. Citadel Station? Not a chance, not for all the money in the world.

Bonus Bonus Question: This previous questions were easy. This one’s hard. I’m sure I could find a video-game world that would be pleasant to live in, potentially much better than our world, but I’d have to trade all of my family and friends for it. I’d strongly consider it if I found a world where I could be effectively immortal and have a good life as well—making it a very narrow set of options—but ultimately I’m not sure what my answer would be.

Just drawing the situation out, even roughly, is already an enormous step forwards from theatre of the mind, and is doing most of the heavy lifting here. It’s also not “theatre of the mind,” like the original poster is implying. It’s a map, just one without grid-spaces or precise distances.
