I’d prefer Pritzker. He’s done great by Illinois and has been standing up for the people against Trump at least as well, if not better than Newsom.

Using AI to impersonate another human, real or, fictional should become a crime. It is becoming rapidly apparent that people are far more easily manipulated than we would like to think. We’re staring down the barrel of a world where anyone with $7500 bucks can orchestrate global conversation on any topic they want be it religious, economic, or political.

If I know anything about Trump, it’s that he wouldn’t spend on cent on a place that wasn’t his. He considers the White House his. He doesn’t intend to leave.

Bullshit. Hold him until he records a statement identifying who in the chain of command ordered him to use teargas on peaceful protesters. If he refuses, or says no one ordered him to, turn him over to prosecutors to seek an indictment for multiple counts of assault. One for each person in the crowd. And if this was the incident where they teargassed a grade school, make it assault on a child.

I wonder if the site is down because they’re being sued.
…it’s a terrible idea because old white people will rise up against them.
The thing is, they did it. It’s done. They apparently don’t care about the old white people anymore because they don’t seem to think they have to worry about elections anymore.

Deputy Jonathan Lane walked up to Deiseroth’s window asked him where he was going and where he thought he was. Deiseroth said he was on the 18-Mile Stretch driving back to Miami after spending the day in Islamorada, according to the deputy’s body camera footage. He was actually at least 70 miles south of the Stretch and driving the opposite way from Miami.
Deiseroth, who had his 7- and 9-year-old sons in the truck, reluctantly agreed to exit the pickup, but tried to appeal to Lane and other deputies on the scene to let him go because he, too, works in law enforcement. He also told Lane he was going through a divorce and said he’d lose his kids if he was arrested, the footage shows.
He deserves to lose more than his kids. He blew .174, with his kids in the car, and didn’t know where he was or where he was headed. On top of that, he threatened the arresting officers and continued to make threats even after he was arrested. He should be locked up for a good long while.
They have already cut Medicaid in the last budget they passed. And, because the last budget also violated the PAYGO rule, because it did not pay for increased expenditures with increased taxes or cuts in other area, they may well have already cut Medicare.
If legislation does not pay for increases in mandatory spending or cuts in tax revenues, the cumulative amount of the projected increase in the deficit is averaged over two periods—5 years and 10 years. (Budget imbalances in the current budget year are included so in practice, the averaging is over 6 and 11 years.) The president is then supposed to sequester (i.e., withhold) enough funding from mandatory programs to offset that deficit increase.
The CBO has calculated that Medicare will be cut by $536 billion over the next decade due to sequestration of funds required by the PAYCO Act of 2010. To keep these cuts from going into effect, the GOP controlled Congress must pass a budget bill that pays for all the increased spending in Trump’s Big Bullshit Bill or a bill that waves the required sequestration of funds that will go into effect early next year.

“O Captain! My Captain!” from The Dead Poets Society.

Golden Dome is a pipe dream . It simply not technologically feasible to protect the entire country from incoming missiles.
You probably have to shoot down missiles during the boost phase, when the warheads are still attached. For SDI, the U.S. was dealing with Soviet liquid-fueled missiles that would boost, or burn, for about four minutes. Well, modern ones burn for less than three—that’s a whole minute that you no longer have. This is actually much worse than it sounds because you’re probably unable to shoot for the first minute or so. Even with modern detectors [that are] much better than [those] we had in the 1980s, you may not see the missile until it rises above the clouds. And once it does, your sensors, your computers, still have to say, “Aha! That is a missile!” And then you have to ensure that you’re not shooting down some ordinary space launch—so the system says, “I see a missile. May I shoot at it, please?” And someone or something has to give the go-ahead. So let’s just say you’ll have a good minute to shoot it down; this means your space-based interceptor has to be right there, ready to go, right? But by the time you’re getting permission to shoot, the satellite that was overhead to do that is now too far away, and so the next satellite has to be coming there. This scales up really, really fast.
And that’s just one of many issues. I recommend reading the whole piece. It really shows what a joke this whole concept is.
I suspect that this is really just another way for Trump to hand billions of dollars to his buddies. Just watch. When some company is given a contract for this it’ll be a brand new company that just happens to be owned by former republican operatives or politicians. Needless to say, the company will never be required to produce anything either. They’ll just pay out all those billions to consultants and other newly created companies owned by other GOP operatives.

It wasn’t that long ago (Trump’s last term) when there were allegations of medical abuse at immigration facilities that included forced sterilization without consent.
Last week, a hideous allegation emerged in a complaint filed on behalf of immigrants detained at the privately operated Irwin County Detention Center (ICDC) in Georgia. In the complaint, nurse Dawn Wooten blew the whistle on “jarring medical neglect” she says she learned about while working at the facility, including an allegation that a government-contracted doctor repeatedly performed sterilizing procedures on women in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody without their knowledge or consent.

…and given a vaccination without her consent and that she was not given translation services to know what the vaccine contained.
Okay, I know this sounds a little tin foil hatty, but is ICE known for giving vaccinations? They are the militant arm of the group that hates vaccinations. I have trouble imagining them dutifully vaccinating the people they detain.
On the other hand, I have no trouble imagining them giving pregnant brown women a shot that might cause a miscarriage…

Well, to be honest, they would be foolish to do anything else. As Sun Tzu wrote, “Never interrupt your opponent while he is in the middle of making a mistake.”

My thought is that I am not likely to trust a self help book written by someone with a ten minute old account and posting in the wrong community.
Do you mean the Gros Michel banana ? It went commercially extinct in the '60s due to a fungus. So, yeah, probably not coming back. Sadly, the Cavendish banana is also subject to the same fungus so may also get wiped out at some point in the future.
But Race 4 (also known as TR4 or fusarium wilt), the new version of Panama disease that started affecting crops in the subtropics in the 1980s and wiping them out, has since moved to infect crops in the Vietnam, Laos, Pakistan, India, Mozambique, and Australia. In 2019, Colombia declared a national disaster when it was discovered there. As it inches closer to Latin America, the likelihood of losing the Cavendish increases.

Like, for example, when Google’s AI told users to add Elmer’s glue to the sauce to keep cheese from sliding off their pizza. And it got the information from u/Fucksmith in an 11 year old Reddit post.

SNAP benefits are still cut off so needy children are suffering, but at least rich people can still buy their toys.

The complaint, based on internal Meta documents the states’ attorneys obtained through subpoenas, alleges that Meta periodically presents young users with “psychologically and emotionally gripping content,” including violent content, to increase engagement.
Intentionally showing graphic violent content to young users in order to drive engagement is a vile practice. That Meta has a history of manipulating people’s emotional state for profit is bad enough. Doing it to children should be a crime.

Earlier Wednesday, Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue and Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram said the FBI, not ICE, led the raid. In a joint statement, they called the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s statement that gave ICE credit for the raid “completely false and a serious misrepresentation of the facts.”
So now they’re arguing about who gets credit for abusing and violating the civil rights of children.
I’m trying to think of a better way to radicalize an entire generation of Hispanics against the USA, and I just can’t come up with one.
