There is nothing that can be improved by majority fighting tooth and nails to survive. What you need is generations of people who know what the better world looks like, and who’s will wasn’t destroyed by absolute power of a fascist boot on the neck. Accelerationism never was a viable idea, it was always a ruse to make less empathetic among the left to fight for the same cause fascists are fighting for.

You can’t build shit for shit, when you’re being actively hunted by ICE for thought crimes, and like third of the Americans don’t know where their next meal will come from.
In order to build something you need to have a foundation, which you can’t do in a crisis. Democratic party as it is is not a party that people are exited about, and they need to be changed one way or another, but you can only do that if there is no Republicans actively hunting you for sports, and the way US is setup right now, you can either have one or another. Denying that is actively dangerous, acting as if it’s not the case brings objectively horrifying results.

That’s the whole thing with torture. It demonstrably doesn’t work, but people who use it aren’t the people who’re concerned with scientific reality

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the catalyst that actually causes (financial) bubbles to burst?
1·7 days agoA lot of people learn nothing from their experience, you’re not alone in that
You grew old and lost that sense of excitement you get being a group of young people, feel of comradery you get yelling nonsense in unison, being stupid to the same wavelength. That’s what that means. You may try to justify your nonsense because your adult brain doesn’t want to grasp the reality that you also was young and stupid so you try to feint some justification for it.

2·8 days agoYou hadn’t been around for dotcom craze then.
A favourite pastime of every old fart is to tell everyone who can’t run away, how much better culture, music, memes, and life in general was when they were young, and how stupid, devoid of meaning, inferior current youth’s activities are.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•A cartoonist's review of AI art - The Oatmeal
11·8 days agoYour opinion of an average person is overly negative.
Generated shit is the new Muzak, the new Alegria clipart, but done very badly. When a person who doesn’t care about music and doesn’t understand music hears Muzak they don’t think about it at all, that’s kind of almost the point of it. It’s an amalgamation of a corporate default sequence of sounds invented to be approved by a committee. And that’s the best that generators can wish to do, and I suspect there is a fundamental quality to it that will prevent it from being that ever.
That’s the thing about art, intentionality, it’s not that “human art” is somehow superiour, it’s that only human art exists, copying algorithms are doing copies, and even if sometimes it works, you don’t get art without an artist saying you something.
Obviously, people who don’t enjoy art don’t care. But that doesn’t really matter.
It’s OK when I do it, I also speak with a heavy nordic accent

1·8 days agoIn order for an art piece to exist, an artist have to have something to say by said art. Fancy autocomplete is not an entity, it’s an algorithm to generate something looking like something else, and even if it crawls out of the uncanny valley at some point (which I’m not sure is possible), the best case scenario is that it will generate something that looks like some people did at some point. It’s not what art is, and it’s not what people look for in art. This will never change, this is the never in said never.
AGI will create art, but at this point we’re further away from it than we were 10 years ago, or even 50 years ago (and I would argue it’s a goos thing)

The possibility of Trump launching military operation against Mexico, Canada, Denmark, China, or whatever his dying brain will come up with next is small, but not zero.
I don’t know what will happen if Trump will annex Greenland. I don’t know what will happen if he nukes Mexico. I don’t know what will happen if he puts military ships in China water to intimidate them into giving him money. But I can’t rule out this and many more idiotic actions of his.
Which are? AOC? Americans will vote for smart young latina woman? If I know anything about americans, they will gouge their eyes with a rusty spoon before they do that.

5·11 days agoDamn, you’re describing my literal worst nightmare. Humans are delightfuly diverse in their tastes

No, there is no medical injections, they only exist in badly written novels. In reality yeah, people will talk, they will talk so much you wouldn’t be able to shut them up. What you can’t have is the reliable information, people will tell you everything they think you want to hear so you wouldn’t worsen their wellbeing. And you can’t know at all, did they tell you the truth, or what they think you want them to say. You might as well ask an LLM for information. The only difference is, LLM is not an entity and can’t feel pain, and that’s probably the main purpose of torture.
