Steve@slrpnk.netOPto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•In Louisiana's 'Cancer Alley,' Black communities get all of the pollution, few of the jobs5·3 months agoThanks. That’s effectively what the article says. It’s confirming what locals have long known / suspected. Thanks for your perspective.
Steve@slrpnk.netto Fediverse vs Disinformation@lemmy.dbzer0.com•TikTok Says It’s Not Censoring ‘Free Palestine’ Comments. Users See Something Different101·6 months agoOne thing I can agree, the censorship and repression has nothing to do with China. The article erroneously uses the term “Semitic” btw and many of the students I was referring to are Jewish. This says nothing new. Just opinions, which are not facts. It’s no conspiracty theory that Meta’s board has many former Israeli intelligence agents on it since you’ve mentioned them. Perhaps you should do a bit more research. And so on.
Steve@slrpnk.netto Fediverse vs Disinformation@lemmy.dbzer0.com•TikTok Says It’s Not Censoring ‘Free Palestine’ Comments. Users See Something Different91·6 months agoIt’s behind a paywall so I can’t read it. I never said “the Jews” were taking it away. I mentioned one group that is a known lobbiest group with examples. I love Jewish people and the ADL and does not speak for all of them in any way. This is the “weaponization” I’m referring to . You are free to disagree but it’s just lazy logic to call it a “conspiracy theory” just because you do.
Steve@slrpnk.netto Fediverse vs Disinformation@lemmy.dbzer0.com•TikTok Says It’s Not Censoring ‘Free Palestine’ Comments. Users See Something Different111·6 months agoHe and others in the ADL weaponized accusations of antisemitism to shut down pro Palestine speech as much as they possibly could. I live a town away from Harvard University and he was seen meeting with Harvard administration often and preceding every act of repression against student activists including immediately before they shut down their encampment and prevented student activists from graduating instead of listening to them.
When a lobbiest says they want a platform shut down and then it eventually gets shut down it’s hard for me to dismiss that as mere coincidence. Given their influence on platforms like Meta, who wants to avoid an FTC investigation, I’m just not surprised. Any corporate platform’s primary goal is profit.
Steve@slrpnk.netto Fediverse vs Disinformation@lemmy.dbzer0.com•TikTok Says It’s Not Censoring ‘Free Palestine’ Comments. Users See Something Different261·6 months agoIt’s no secret that Jonathan Greenblatt of the ADL was recorded and heard by many saying “We don’t have a left / right problem. We have a young / old problem. We have a TikTok problem” It’s pretty clear that TikTok finally caved in to the ADL’s demands, just like other centralized social media companies.

My former employer lied to unemployment and and it worked in my favor. Either way they can appeal a decision and should start consulting attorneys immediately.

Seeing un-constructive comments elsewhere probably prejudiced me. These are definitely upsetting statistics and those feelings are valid. Good news is they’re only inevitable if we allow them to be so hopefully we can influence others to take action as individuals for collective change and liberation.
Steve@slrpnk.netOPto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•New map shows how devasted the climate is predicted to be where you live103·1 year agoThis is meant as a prediction of how could things could be based on current trends and data, not an inevitable future we can do nothing about. There are many constructive things that can be done. I don’t think leaving sarcastic comments on message boards is one of them.

I hope they can be trusted to live up to that. However it still feels l pretty problematic to bring them in and would be a lot of opting in to debate and implement. It remains a pretty big violation of user privacy and trust and it says here:
As if that weren’t bad enough, preparations for the sale went poorly, and it seems large categories of Tumblr posts that weren’t supposed to be sold were added to the mix anyway. That data includes:
Private posts from public accounts Posts on deleted or suspended accounts Unanswered asks Private answers Explicit posts Posts from partner accounts, like ad campaigns where Tumblr doesn't own the rights. (Apple is specifically named here.)

From Wikipedia:
In February 2024, Automattic announced that it would begin selling user data from Tumblr and WordPress to Midjourney and OpenAI.
Agreed but I don’t think that’s what the article is trying to say.
