  • Some of the things I replaced for fun

Some things I broke as I am learning to fix bikes (Hubs mainly… when a cog comes off unexpectedly it usually takes the threads with it)

Others just did wear out that fast… last chain only gave me around 1,000 mi but I rode in a lot of rain / mud and used an awful chain lube. (It was well over 1% out of spec and all winter I had a knocking in my pedal that I just couldn’t figure out)

  • I have a fixed gear from state that cost a bit over $500 3 years ago.

It’s my beer and dinner fetching machine. I ride it everyday (the longway) to my local store for ingredients for dinner

3 years and 3000 miles later

I have had to replace 2 chains, 3 rear hubs (my own mistakes… check your lockring or blow up a hub), saddle, grips, cog, lockring, Pedals (went from flats to cages and am now on SPD), replaced original brakes with Shimano brakes and have gone through A LOT of tires.

I think I am in it at like $1500… Tools I don’t want to calculate but building and truing wheels is a very relaxing thing to do

Here’s a picture of it loaded up. I think that I was getting ready for a party

    Its pretty anti-fixie

  • The top three are used in California.

I mainly stick with Dude and Buddy (Buddy being my go to for strangers “Thanks Buddy”)

In my office a few years back I started ironically calling people “Homie” and that overtime morphed into a gender neutral term of endearment we all used for each other.

I really wonder where “Homie” fits into this

  • The FuseFS thing; yeah It was crazy to me because I must abandon the metaphor by saying…

MacOS IS Unix AND Linux is really just trying its damndest to BE Unix

Both MacOS and Unix are POSIX… while Windows requires either WSL OR if you are old school cygwin to achieve POSIX compatibility

So to a degree they are the similar…

but like finding a dick on the internet you are always reminded by MacOS that Unix != Linux :) (I love Linux all the same)

  • Mac OS version of Fuse is a commercial software. That said there are other alternatives.

I use Samba over my LAN and ZeroTier to create a sort of VPN Samba on MacOS is a bit slow (heads up) I have not yet figured that issue out but this setup worked for me for a number of years. (and manages to handle my time machine backups over LAN)

Any more since most of my remote access needs fall under development I user Visual Studio Code and their Remote connections system (which is pretty fucking good and “only” requires an SSH connection… and a decent amount of RAM on the remote host)

There are a lot of things to beat up an MacOS over… but honestly getting more technical windows users to from Windows to Mac WILL help Linux adoption. Getting into the underpants of MacOS is very similar to linux (you just don’t HAVE to have fun unless you want to)
