I think it would be best for Firefox to be given greater autonomy, like Thunderbird has been. Thunderbird asks for donations and I’m happy to provide! I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Thunderbird started to thrive after being greater independence. Major new initiatives in user interface, mobile client after years of stagnation. Something at Mozilla central is deeply rotten.

Yes, it’s indefensible and bizarre. I was the one who first put forward the idea on their Connect forum. I don’t understand their thinking on a lot of development priorities, and they don’t seem to care too much about helping us understand.

I found it very odd how little they emphasize donations. Wikipedia, for example, has been quite successful with their pledge drive model, and like Wikipedia, Firefox has a natural platform to ask people to donate. I guess they are afraid of people switching to a browser that doesn’t ask them to donate, where with Wikipedia, there is no real alternative

However, I dread when my mom tells me she needs help with an account and I can’t do anything because the key is on her iOS Keychain I don’t have access to

Apparently, the chargers will be updated to become dumb terminals that just charge automatically when plugged in, but for many end users, the main reason they went with Juicebox (which was bought by Enel) was that Enel would handle user accounts and billing. I work at an organization where we charge employees at a discounted rate, and the chargers are open to the public to use as well if they install the app and input their payment info. We’re going to have to close down public access if we can’t find a solution. A couple companies are saying they might be able to take over. Would have been nice to have more than a couple weeks to figure this out!
I used the Notes quite a bit and thought it was a mistake to get rid of it. People pay for notes and tasks related sync services, so it could have been a revenue source. I also miss Firefox Panorama

They said they’d open source Pocket and they didn’t. In fact, they’ve simply allowed it to rot and just removed features. So here I think the skepticism is warranted.
This was the one reason I wasn’t cheering for the filibuster to be repealed. The 60 vote threshold was the only thing that saved it last time. They will only be able to realistically get rid of it if they abolish the filibuster. Which would be a net win for Democrats, so they likely won’t do it.
