David Rosenthal recently wrote a blog piece about it. It goes quite deep into the economics but this is what I understand from the piece:
- Pricing for AI services is modelled after “the drug-dealer’s algorithm” (the first go is free)
- Specifically for enterprise usage, the model assumes that enterprises will find that using the service gives enough value to cover the subsidised cost of the service through the lock-in period.
- The assumed depreciation of hardware used in AI services is wrong, and the bubble will burst soon. Providers will have to raise prices significantly to remain solvent.

Jesus Christ that’s depressing.
I’m really sorry you’re going through this. This is rough and I hope you and your wife both find a way through this.
Some thoughts from an internet stranger:
-
Your ADHD is not your fault. You mentioned not doing anything about it for around a year: please remember that ADHD affects your executive function. Maybe you feel like you could have done something earlier, but that’s part of the cruelty of executive dysfunction: we rationalise the inactivity (“I was lazy”, “I couldn’t be bothered”, etc.) because that’s easier to understand than accepting that for whatever reason your brain just couldn’t go there. You’re doing something now and that’s what matters.
-
Just because your relationship feels like it’s not good now, that doesn’t mean it can’t improve. It sounds like both of you are carrying a lot, and maybe for now the right thing is having space from each other. That’s sad, and feeling those feelings is valid and important. But that doesn’t mean the story is over for the both of you. Some other people here have mentioned couples therapy, and if that’s something you’re both interested in I’d also like to join in with recommending that.

It’s a crime, is what it is. Half that’s going down your shirt.
wtf is that? That’s gonna fall apart in 0.2 seconds.

Nothing in the OP is false though. It’s encouraging a particular perspective.
I’m still on a high from a teenager telling me my Waynestock tshirt was cool.
That happened 16 years ago.

Same, buddy
Yes! I don’t have an ADHD diagnosis but I do struggle with working/short term memory (from depression and SSRI treatment) and executive dysfunction (aforementioned depression). You mentioning this makes me realise these pauses do feel very similar to executive dysfunction.
Yeah, I assumed so. I guess I was just worried it might be something neurological, that also causes tiredness and stress.
Oh that’s interesting.
I don’t know if it’s anxiety, but I definitely feel the pressure not to keep the person or people I’m talking to hanging.
The problem I have is that I don’t feel it coming on. It’s just suddenly there, so recognizing the situation and rephrasing doesn’t feel possible: once I’m stuck, I’m stuck. It’s like missing a step when you’re going up stairs: you can’t skip the stumbling part.
No I don’t think they’re full of shit. The picture likely came from this Instagram video. It might have been upscaled or filtered but it’s not AI generated.
Ah I found what looks like the original Instagram video this came from.
I’m sorry I accused you of using AI for it.

Yeah! I’ve had chronic depression for most of my life and I’ve noticed an improvement to it since taking vit D supplements, especially during winter months.
It’s not a fix, but it’s been a clear improvement for me.
