i haven’t actually read Atlas Shrugged, probably should considering how often it’s referenced in discussions on literature.

I absolutely understand why people hate it. on lemmy, probably because of themes that could be interpreted as being anti communist. In the real world, because of how it mocks religion quite viciously, and promotes critical thinking.

Also multiple strong female characters who are well written, that really pisses people off.

I can’t tell if you intent this as a positive or a negative, but it very much an accurate assessment.

Terry Goodkind wrote the Sword of Truth series beginning with The Wizard’s First rule in 1994, with 17 books in the main series and I believe still ongoing. Not much sex, but it has the brutality down, and is very well written.

Alive and well in the indie scene. HoMM specifically has two spiritual successors I’m keeping an eye on in Hero’s Hour (fun and absurd, but doesn’t work on linux), and Songs of Conquest (haven’t played it yet, looks very promising).

My class was like that, except it was K all the way up through 12. Every year, the same problem kids, and nothing could be done about it. Every year, at least one teacher quit because of my class, rumor has it that one of the high school teachers committed suicide because of us.

Restaurants have kitchen staff. Retail has merchandisers and night crew. I’m sure I can come up with more if I put any effort into it whatsoever. I’m not saying that customer facing jobs aren’t the majority of entry level positions, but they’re far from all of them.
