I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer to use.

Note: I’m moderating a handful of communities in more of a caretaker role. If you want to take one on, send me a message and I’ll share more info :)
If someone wants to put together some playlists, I didn’t have a chance to do that yet. All but one of the songs are on YouTube, so that might be a good place to start.
This is also our first time using LimeSurvey. Hopefully it goes well, and if not then we can learn from it before using it for our Census later
Few more listed on the links here
mander.xyz is nice for all the STEM communities
Canada too, our telecom companies are… bad
I got into the habit of downloading anything I wanted to watch / read on the bus. That offline reddit app was nice, and even though I don’t need it now I’d probably download a lemmy version of it
I also set up an IFTTT thing back then which would turn off data and turn on wifi based on location
This is true, and we wouldn’t want to keep a bad actor around just because the election is over. I’ll change the wording to add ‘minimum’
We’re also working on updated guidelines, so there will be a bigger call for feedback like this once we have that together. Those guidelines will apply site wide and across the different platforms (pixelfed.ca for example). How we deal with misinformation is an important area that we want to get right
So while this isn’t the cause in your case, it is possible to sticky things to the main feed. It’s done by admins, and for example lemmy.ca has a welcome post stickied right now:
I think it’s a federation bug. That post is on https://community.nodebb.org/, which isn’t a Lemmy instance but actually a different software.
Which in itself is cool! There are a few projects being worked on right now to make traditional forums compatible with activity pub. The idea being that someday you’ll be able to follow and post in official support forums for things right from your Lemmy account.
But right now, it might be causing some weird federation bug. Maybe the date of the post shows up to Lemmy as sometime in the future and so it’s always the “newest” post (or something similar)?
No decisions have been made on that yet, and I’m happy to discuss more about it :)
Right now, I think a rule like that might be too broad. A big part of this election is about what’s going on outside of Canada, so I can see us having to make exceptions for important news that hasn’t been covered by a local news organization yet. I’d prefer to set some basic rules that we can follow consistently, and deal with problem posts if/when they get posted. Misleading and inaccurate headlines would still be removed under this rule
Some brainstorming from me:
Alternatively, what would a recycling/conversion program look like?
Ok yep, I have the display issue as well. Interestingly, it only affects some of the equations. I’ll take a better look this evening
Can you link the article so that others can take a look?
Gmail’s search and filters have been annoying for some time now. This feels like an overpowered bandaid to that problem
Manually downloading HTML posts would be more difficult, but it might be possible by parsing the data export you can download from Facebook
It changes very fast, I’ve been going through a cycle of
They changed the new tab / split tabs feature recently and I think it broke some things
Please keep the original title when submitting an article. You can put your own commentary in the body of the post or in the comment section :)
I didn’t remove the post yet, but we’re getting reports about it
I should have specified, people we’re downvoting you
But looks like the score is positive again 🙂
I’ve heard Kobo is better than the other big players when it comes to interoperability with open formats / self hosted setups.
As for the servers

Also (to everyone else reading your comment) let’s not downvote good faith comments, especially when they’re phrased as a question and wanting to learn more
Makes me think of Original Position / veil of ignorance
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_position
The original position (OP), often referred to as the veil of ignorance, is a thought experiment often associated with the works of American philosopher John Rawls. In the original position, one is asked to consider which principles they would select for the basic structure of society, but they must select as if they had no knowledge ahead of time what position they would end up having in that society. This choice is made from behind a “veil of ignorance”, which prevents them from knowing their ethnicity, social status, gender, and (crucially in Rawls’s formulation) their or anyone else’s ideas of how to lead a good life. Ideally, this would force participants to select principles impartially and rationally.
With that in mind, I LOVE how lean and fast some FOSS apps/projects are. One of my motivations to go searching for FOSS alternatives is when something seems slow for no reason.
It’s not always the case, but it’s often the case
Yes that was intentional, but I should have been more clear about what each link was. I added this blurb now:
We can also update the confirmation screen for future surveys. Right now it’s set to ‘soft mandatory’, so it will stop you the first time but you can forcibly skip past it at that point. Surveys don’t usually do that, so it might be unnecessarily confusing to use that feature.
