poszod@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most immersive video game that you've played?7·8 months agoI’m a big fan of open world for immersion. Oblivion when it came out, GTA SA and 5, RDR2.
But something that surprised me about immersion was Cataclysm DDA (with good tile and sound packs). It takes a long time to get into the groove of the game as a first timer, but once you do, the emergent stories that come out of it are incredibly immersive.
Bullet hands down. Best handling of all the sports cars, and the most pleasant motor sound.

And a result of that hurt the american consumer? Why do it to begin with?English3·8 months agoAs an anecdote about this, most countries in South America charge a 100% import tax on almost all electronic devices (laptops, phones, pc parts, cameras, etc). Not only the exchange rates already make these purchases almost impossible, they also have to pay double. The ripple effects on the future of a country where people don’t have access to the tools they might need to develop themselves is tragic.
This is the photo I use as an example when people complain about editing in photography. The diagonal shadow was famously added in post production:

I could engage with activities outside of my house (gym, sports, going out with friends), but inside was apathy.
Only thing that helped was ADHD medication.

Caves of Qud was my first contact with post post-apocalypse. Can’t even begin to convey how strange and magical everything feels in that universe.

I see that you’re hurting. If you look at it through this lens, his behaviour will start to make sense to you.
So many features, goddamn. Bunch of social things:

State actors could be interested in doing that. Same with the internet archive attacks.
I agree that forced exclusivity is bad. I absolutely disagree with your statement that ubisoft store was better than steam, I don’t even understand how you can say something like that. But yes, without the games any store is worthless.
You didn’t respond to my question though, so I’ll repeat it: even if someone was able to launch a product with feature parity to steam, why would anyone migrate?
I was gonna comment about epic giving games away for free, but I think I got your point. You mean like the same releases, but subsidizing, say, 10% of the price?
Assuming that a company could hope to achieve a store front with similar features in a few years instead of the 21 that steam had, why would anyone migrate there?
I’m on the same page as you, it’s tough. I have no idea how any other platform can really achieve competitor status with steam, and this is a big problem for us consumers and for developers.
poszod@lemmy.worldto General Discussion@lemmy.world•You should never forget Unit 731242·10 months agoBoth the Soviet Union and United States gathered data from the Unit after the fall of Japan. While twelve Unit 731 researchers arrested by Soviet forces were tried at the December 1949 Khabarovsk war crimes trials, they were sentenced lightly to the Siberian labor camp from two to 25 years, in exchange for the information they held.[10] Those captured by the US military were secretly given immunity,[11] The United States helped cover up the human experimentations and handed stipends to the perpetrators.[1] The US had co-opted the researchers’ bioweapons information and experience for use in their own warfare program (resembling Operation Paperclip), as did the Soviet Union in building their bioweapons facility in Sverdlovsk using documentation captured from the Unit in Manchuria.[12][10][13]
lol
It doesn’t matter if it were being used for its intended purpose, parking like this is absolutely wrong.
