I think the main Problem with raspberry pi is the video encoding and that it doesn’t have enough power to do it properly depending on the codec.

Do you have some movie recommendations? I’m also happy to hear about older movies (60s 70s 80s)

The quality contrast between blu ray and DVDs is massive if done properly. As I said I only encountered it two times so far and I guess this was simply a cheap money grab and taken from the DVD or even worse sources yeah. Mostly noticable if they out multiple movies onto a single disc, but with all the other stuff blu ray is way more crisp than dvd. Maybe your tv is just better in upscaling. I guess especially for animes it’s easy to do so

I got tired of blu rays somehow:

• trailers at the beginning (skippable)
• copyright and and piracy warning (non skippabale)
• usually no english subs for blu rays bought in germany (original english sound though)
• got one with really bad quality and other versions on the internet looked way better (original the hills have eyes)
• wanted to lend a friend without a blu ray player a few by giving him my old laptop with a blu ray drive. No proper software to play it without fiddeling under linux
• resources and plastic cases (started buying used - but then if it’s a really good movie the studio won’t receive any support for it)
• players will need updates to be able to handle new encryption keys (never ran into it though bc I keep my PS updated)

Pros:

• the collection looks nice in the shelf
• picking up a movie is usually easier for me than on netflix
• I watched the bonus material after the movie which was often interesting

I know that feeling and you’re not alone. It’s terrifying and I don’t know how others handle it or if everyone just keeps quiet about it or live in ignorance about that fact. Also doesn’t help that I don’t believe in an afterlive.

Das kommt auf den Anbieter an, aber ich habe kein Problem. Schaffe 500mbit/s. In SABnzbd muss man die Anzahl der Connections einstellen, da der Default 8 ist, was die Leitung nicht ausreizt (habe 50). Anzahl der verfügbaren Connections ist auch Anbieter abhängig.

Ich bin mir nicht sicher aber eigentlich ist das ja als Diskussionsforum gedacht. Die Provider überprüfen nicht was da hochgeladen wird sondern reagieren nur auf Löschungsanträge der Urheberrechtsinhaber. Prinzipiell bieten sie “nur“ einen Dienst an, der für Piraterie missbraucht wird, wie sas eben auch bei Mega Upload der Fall ist (Cloud Speicher).

Ja es gibt eine GUI die Browser läuft, weswegen mam es sehr gut in einen Docker Container packen und einfach via Webbrowser drauf zugreifen kann. Auch die lokale Applikation nutzt den Browser.
