You aren’t following me. Why isn’t the smart person able to fool the stupid people into voting for her? She did everything right. She had tons of celebrities endorsing her. All of her messages were carefully run past consultants and focus groups. It should’ve worked, right?

Being “pragmatic on Iraq” turned off a lot of the left. Ralph Nader’s running mate, Peter Camejo, remarked at the time “Kerry isn’t Bush Lite. He’s Bush Smart! We do not need a smarter Bush!” Apparently the electorate agreed, because W. Bush went on to win a second term.

People who hide their bigotry behind the law disgust me. They’ll say that they’re only against illegal immigration while they work to make it harder and harder to immigrate legally. What is legal isn’t the same thing as what is moral. You’re just sidestepping the entire issue by hiding behind the law.
