FINALLY! Looking forward to this one!
By saying just “2025” this solidifies in my mind that this will be the cross gen game that launches with the Switch 2 around April or May or whatever.
That would be new, usually Zelda games are the ones that are the death knell of Nintendo systems.
Yeah and we can assume Tears of the Kingdom was intended to be this before the delaying actions started.
There has been no delaying, only TotK itself was delayed by a year.
The switch 2 itself was delayed til next year. The all but verified leaks and rumors originally had the switch 2 releasing this year before it was delayed. This was evidently confirmed by several different sources. Though rumors are just rumors.
I think too, that this will be a cross-gen game. But the Switch 2 will be released in fall next year, and it will be announced in spring, at least 6 months earlier.
That’s certainly a possibility. I just have this feeling that Nintendo doesn’t have any other games than what they showed us in this direct to fill up a whole extra year. Of course, that’s just a feeling.
And I feel like they may follow the Switch playbook where they show off the console in December - probably during the game awards or (ugh) on Jimmy Fallon like they did last time. Then launch in four to six months with Metroid.
Given the lack of noticeable aliasing in this trailer I wouldn’t be surprised if this footage is being run off Switch 2 hardware. Things to my eye look significantly sharper than what we’ve been getting from the switch.
This looks about comparable to the remaster from earlier, which looked incredible for a Switch game. The trailer looked nice but definitely not what we would expect from something on the level of a PS4. I don’t see a reason to doubt that the footage was the game running on Switch.
But the fact that people are debating if this is Switch 2 footage speaks volumes about Retro Studio’s skill. Jaw-dropping graphics for a Switch game.
Digital Foundry made a pretty convincing case that it’s running on current switch hardware: https://www.ign.com/articles/was-metroid-prime-4-running-on-switch-2. That being said, a cross-generation release wouldn’t be out of character for Nintendo.
I was so hyped when I saw it, can’t wait to play it. I really hope that it will be for Switch (please don’t be for Switch 2).
Hopefully if it is for switch 2, they’d have a switch version as well
I bet they will do this. I remember they did this with Twilight Princess as well.
Or Breath of the Wild. It was a launch title for the Switch but also had a version for the Wii U.
I vaguely remember hearing BOTW played better in some ways on Wii-U but I could be misremembering
In terms of gameplay I think the Sheikah Slate functions were mirrored on the Wii-U pad (at least that was likely the original intent.
The Wii-U emulator was also a lot more developed when BotW released, so if you pirated it at launch the Wii-U version was the one to go with.
I don’t think they’d have announced the weaker version of the game first. The first preview of the game would have been from the best possible version they have to show off, so this trailer is probably exactly that. I think it’s unlikely that this will be a dual-release game.
Which makes me worry for the success of the game. Having what should be a cornerstone game for the Switch being released on year 8 of the console’s life span is not a good look. I want this to be good; I’ve been wanting this game ever since I finished Metroid Prime 3 back in 2007, I just hope it’s not too late to still find success.
I’m hoping for a cross gen situation akin to Breath of the Wild’s launch.
I’m hoping it’s gonna be like a GameBoy Color game. One cartridge. Play on Switch, regular graphics. Play on Switch 2, next-gen graphics. Everyone wins
That would be really cool.
Fun tidbit: there’s a tiny physical switch in the plug in port that tells those systems which mode the game is for. So if the cartridge presses that switch in, the Gameboy will use the Color/Advanced software, for example.I don’t remember which way is for what specific system, but I always thought that was clever.
IIRC, GBC cartridges could physically fit inside the OG GB, but would throw an error when it required the extra power of the GBC. The GBA had the notch that determined Advance/not-Advance mode and made GBA games physically exclusive to the GBA
That’s what I was thinking of. Thank you!
It took a little googling but I found an article on it: https://www.ign.com/articles/2001/03/22/game-boy-advance-territory-lock-out-investigated
I wish I had my GBA to look at, since I’ve never noticed that switch in person, but I lost it some years ago. It’s probably still at my dad’s house somewhere, but I haven’t been able to find it. :(
Nice find! I saw it in a video, maaaaybe a MVG video? I don’t feel like digging through channels for it. This article is great
The website is very clear that it’s a Switch game
That would be a valid point if Nintendo never delayed games or changed plans
I’d rather it be on Switch 2 just so it can run better/look better. Plus 2025, i mean… Switch 2 is coming in what, March or so?
Games and consoles are really expensive in my country and since Switch 2 will probably have 4K (at least from TTYD source code) I’m not sure that I’ll be able to buy it.
Well I guess then we will see, maybe they will do something similar to how they did for some of the zelda games in the past, where it’s on both the old and new system at the same time (as a launch title).
I wonder if it coming out in 2025 means there’s still a chance we see Prime 2 and 3 Remasters on Switch, Maybe for Christmas 2024?
I really hope so, as I have never played the original Prime trilogy, and want to play them all before 4. Have been meaning to play Metroid Prime Remake, but without any news of Remake of 2 and 3, or MP 4, wasn’t prioritizing it, but going to play the first one soon now.
Hope they release the 2 and soon.
I’ve only played the first one, but I’m starting the second one on Game Cube soon! I still have hope they’ll release 2 and 3, even if they’re not “Remasters”, it doesn’t make sense that they wouldn’t be selling them before Prime 4.
Yeah, there are lots of people (like me) who don’t have any other Nintendo console other than Switch, so getting them all accessible would be good, but as they say, it’s Nintendo, so who knows.
If you have a PC, they run very well in an emulator. Dolphin even runs on Android, though I’ve never tried it so I can’t judge its performance.
Dolphin runs pretty badly on low-end hardware in general. That being anything worse than mid-grade desktop hardware.
Depending on the specific game, it may be playable, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
As a specific example, I have a laptop with an i5-1335u, and it can’t run Twilight Princess playably at all, and Metroid Prime 2 doesn’t work great either.
But my previous 10600k desktop had no issues.
And as a general rule, phones are less powerful than even low-end desktop hardware.
I would prefer to just wait for the official release 😀
Thanks for the suggestion though!
2 could use a remake, if only to finish polishing the dark world. I’m pretty sure it was just a “copy-paste, delete all the plants, make everything purple, and throw a couple rocks around” job. It deserved better.
Ohhh looks beautiful! I hope it’s good after all the delays. Reminds me, I need to play Prime 2 and 3…
Are they making remasters for those too?
No nothing’s been announced. I’ll probably just emulate them
If you want a new challenge, try the randomizers: https://randovania.org/
But beware, it doesn’t stop you from getting locked into a room with no way out. For example, if you get to the GFMC Compound in Prime 2 but don’t have any items to get out, you’re stuck, since you need the space jump or power bombs to backtrack.
Oh that’s neat! I’ve played Prime 1 before so if I fancy playing it again I’ll try this out. Prime 2 and 3 I’ve never played (well, I did get a little ways into 3 on Wii years back - but I’m planning to start from scratch). Thank goodness for Primehack!
I’ve been playing MP3 for the first time lately and I’m excited for this next entry! I’m glad to see they have seemingly introduced a new nemesis, as dark Samus was getting a little old IMO
I thought this was some sort of joke about how long its been since a new Prime game has come out, its Metroid Prime 3 not mp3 💀
If you look closely, you can actually map the letters mp3 to the first letter in each of the words from the phrase metroid prime 3. This is some advanced cryptography so let me know if that’s hard to understand.
I think they meant their first thought after reading “MP3” was not about Metroid Prime 3, but they eventually got it.
It definitely comes off as them demanding someone spell it out instead of using an acronym, but you’re right I should give them the benefit of the doubt.
Yes, I was referring to mp3 files which is why I have it lowercase
over under, silk song releasing compared to prime 4
Wow that’s a terrible trailer. They could put a bit of effort into it

It’s not what the trailer shows, it’s how it’s showing it. It’s just a slide show of things happening. Fade transitions. Awkward cuts between shots. Almost nothing in sync with the music. The release date is stitched to the end as another clip. The villain’s theme just starts playing while the music is still going. Shows the date and location in the beginning as if it’s going to be story related, then just shows gameplay until the end…
It’s called a “teaser”
It’s called “bad editing”
I hope we get a surprise Metroid Prime Hunters Remaster before this because I have no idea who the villain is.
You think your fun playing MP4 will be diminished due to not knowing who Sylux is in advance?
Not at all. But now that Hunters is more directly tied into the story and not just a spinoff it would be nice to have the full context.
Sorry, but there is no context. All of the other bounty hunters just exist to pad out the multiplayer roster and provide random encounters in single player. They don’t actually have any plot significance.
I can tell him who Sylux is, one of the best online characters of MPH! (That is all I know about LMAO).
I’d love a MPH game for Switch, the online game was, and still is peak!
Very little metroidvania in it so I think it’s a bad Metroid game but it’s still a great game. Legitimately one of the DS must haves. And it had some killer online multiplayer!
And it had some killer online multiplayer!
And still, thanks to Wimmfi, you can still play with others, it is the only reason it never leaves my flashcard 😆
It’s happening!!
Wow the new saints row looks awesome
Metroid Pinball 99 anyone?
Despict being happy to see a new MP entry, I’m surprised by the lack difference between this and the remaster.
I kind of hate seeing things like this because I know I don’t have the attention span to justify buying a switch I really wish they could just do a computer storefront already heck an official nintendo steam deck would probably sell like the wii
You lack the attention span to buy a switch? What?
I bought a ps4 and waited in line for the midnight release and it gathered dust super fast I think I got 100 hours on it before I just moved back to pc only out of habit, I was having fun and enjoyed the games I had so it makes me worry that I’d do the dane with a switch
There is an official Nintendo steam deck, it’s called the Switch.
Ya I know I just want a fair way to get switch games on my pc so I don’t forget to pick the switch again after a couple months
There’s always emulation but from what I read the performance in handheld is not the best
Don’t have a pc gaming handheld so I wouldn’t have to worry about that performance problem but if one could share my pc games and nintendo games it would be a day one buy, I might be able to make it a year before I forget it exists
Oh y’all cool with Nintendo again?
Dem member berries making sales
You’re surprised that the Nintendo community will buy Nintendo products?
As a side observation yes, I’m surprised Lemmy did such an about face
Lemmy is not a single person. Different people have different opinions. In the Nintendo community, they’re probably going to be more favorable towards Nintendo.
Obviously my tongue in cheek original comment was a criticism of the prevailing tone that many many subs had over previous months. I’m calling out the hypocrisy of the group, not the individual. I’m calling out how quickly sentiment shifts as soon as the member berries are activated
The group is not saying one thing and doing another, because the group is many people saying many things.
Obviously dude. I’m talking group to group not group to individual. That’s clear throughout, especially cause I didn’t @ or reply to anyone.
First you said “y’all”, and us all would be the people here in this community, then you said “Lemmy” in general, so no it was not at all clear.
The Nintendo community does not speak for all of Lemmy, nor does Lemmy in general speak for Nintendo consumers.
What?
Lemmy was up in arms at Nintendo with their stance on emulator legal crackdown. I saw many “never again” comments. Now a new thing from a beloved franchise comes out and the tone is “gimmeeee”
Ah got it, well you cannot be sure the same people who is against Nintendo is the same who wants to play the newest Metroid (well, maybe you could, if you investigate, as Lemmy userbase is still small, it would be feasible, but it would be a waste of time IMHO).
Also there is another fraction of people who will play their games but won’t support Nintendo financially 🏴☠️ so yeah, this subject is just not white and black I think.
