This is a bit of a cultural thing. Grilling whole onions. It’s my favorite, I could eat 4 in one sitting.

Never done it, usually decomposed into wedges and grilled in a basket with other veggies like garlic, mushrooms, and golden beets. They do it with half onions at a Lebanese restaurant near me they are sweet and delicious!

That looks delicious. I believe it was also very common to just bake whole onions in victorian times as a hearty meal on a string budget

Onions and bread in some areas of the middle east as a string budget meal. Last resort. That’s interesting stuff there. :)

That depends heavily on what you plan on serving them with. If it’s being served with something that would pair with a cooked and softly charred onion, hell yes.

If you’re just planning on eating a whole grilled onion by itself though, you’re off your rocker.

They’re typically server with veggie/beef/chicken skewers. Personally, I don’t mind eating them by themselves lol. I love grilled onions, too much.

What do you do with a whole onion?

Ive done slices and those small pearl onions, as well as green onions with carne asada.

But also your top image is upside down.

Just eat the whole onion. :) Peel one layer at a time. It stays juicy and I really like it.

Yes it is, I have no idea how to get Lemmy to upload pictures with the correct orientation.

Mexicans grill spring onions. Thought it was weird the first few times but I grew to love them.

Honest question as I would try this. After grilling, do you just bite into them like an apple? Do you eat them plain? Looks good!

Not like an apple for sure.

I personally peal the outer most layer as it’s burnt a bit, but some people love it. I like to eat them layer by layer, pealing one at a time. Does that make sense?
