Summary
Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmady was arrested for performing without a hijab during a virtual YouTube concert, defying Iran’s strict dress code for women.
Her performance, viewed over 1.4 million times, featured her singing in a sleeveless black dress, sparking widespread praise online for her courage.
Authorities have not disclosed her charges or location, though her lawyer and two bandmates confirmed arrests.
This comes amid ongoing resistance to Iran’s mandatory hijab law, which has faced increased criticism since the 2022 protests over Jina Mahsa Amini’s death.
I swear this kinda shit is the blueprint for America’s development under Republican rule
Yeah. Y’all Qaeda may have a different god than the Iranian regime, but how they want to treat women and minorities is basically identical.
They have the same God. Islam Christianity and Judaism all worship the exact same sky daddy.
Y’all Qaeda’s “god” spray paints his face and wears a diaper, size XXXL.
Not really.
I was convinced of the same thing for years but I was explained in detail why the entity the muslims praise is not the same jews and christians praise.
The key to split the hairs in this matter is locked with the way arabic is written an read, that tends to be poorly carried when translated.
There is a passage in the quran where the islamic supreme presents and names itself as, literally, “Allah”. The word is usually translated as “God” but it is incorrect, as it is proper name and not a title, in contrast with the christian/jewish deity, that never reveals its name and instead only responds to titles and honorifics.
That is the gist of it. It had a bit more of detail but it’s been a while.
IMO this is splitting a hair that doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. If you’re going to be going into that much detail over the exact wording used to refer to the Abrahamic god, you’re gonna have to go all the way back to Yahweh being a local warrior god for the Hebrews that imperfectly merged with the chief Canaanite god El (hence all the names that invoke El like Israel, Samuel, Daniel, Elijah, etc.).
This El is thought to be - by a majority, not definitively - an etymological root of Allah (al-ilah, “il” being the cognate of “El”).
If we’re going all the way to historical root words, they ultimately worship the same god again, and it’s the chief deity of a now-defunct polytheistic religion.
FIY, Al-Lah literally means the ( one and only ) God. It’s never, meant as a name the way you understand it, likes like a transcendent title, a position in a way. It’s never been a literal name.
How infallible you think the Quran and Bible are is almost directly connected to whether or not you believe them to be written with any sort of continuity or purpose, which kinda makes it really goddamn hard to know what someone thinks a passage represents.
The range is all the way from:
“This group of ignorant goat fuckers called theirs Allah”
To
“God spoke to them and said its name was Allah.”
Guess it depends on who’s holding the hook and doing the defending.
They don’t even have a different God, unless you’re talking Mammon.
All Abrahamic religions have the same god. Allah = Yahweh = God.
They are all Abrahamic Religions. But that hasn’t stopped nearly a thousand years of conflict since the First Crusade.
They’re the same god in the sense that those religions claim they are the same god. But they are different in the sense that they are part of different religions that have long lasting disagreements. Abraham =/= Jesus =/= Muhammad. So they are different gods in the sense of what people kill each other over.
Hopefully this kind of attitude will lead to peace between these groups in the future. However, I think we shouldn’t uncritically take what religion tells us at face value. Of course it’s all made up, but the reasons it was made up are important.
Jews decided there was only one real god so they could invalidate other religions. Christians decided that god had a son so they could both benefit from the religion Jews started while also invalidating those same Jews. Muslims decided that a guy got an update from god so they could invalidate Christians and Jews while still benefiting from those religions and the idea of a single god. It’s about using religion as a source of legitimacy for power.
Monotheism, or least pretending to be monotheist, has benefited religions, so no group wants to give that up. And it was probably seen as way to convert people from older religions. Again, hopefully ‘they are all the same god’ will be used to unite people in the future, but it’s important to understand ‘they are all the same god’ was about leveraging existing beliefs for power. edit: word choice
they believed in the same god before the revolution and were doing just fine. this is political control. and you can thank the empire for it.
