Dude come on. We’re literally talking about racism. Black people have been compared to monkeys for centuries, this isn’t new.

I don’t recall comparing black people to monkeys. You don’t want anyone comparing Trumpers to apes?

I think I recall respecting some of your other comments, so I will definitely take it under advisement, though.

I like the term because it is rude and describes that they are outrage- and fear-addicted Fox News watchers who don’t care about long term success for the country. I wish there was something comparably derisive to replace it with.

I’m going to respond to both of your comments here since it looks like Lemmy hiccuped somehow.

There’s plenty of terms off the top of my head, sheeple, orange cultists, Ya’ll Qaeda, idiots, etc.

Using references to monkeys, especially in a discussion about racism doesn’t need anyone to reference black people. That is the reference. Here’s some good reading on the subject.

If you want to use the ancient form of it I would make sure to declare a noun as being ape-like. “Trump supporters are a bunch of scared apes.”

Does “Trumpanzee Repubs” imply black republican (given the post’s context)? If so, that’s offensive as fuck. Even if it doesn’t imply black republican, I’d still avoid ever using that term ever again, just in case.

You think that’s meant to mean black Republicans in the context of a comment complaining about Donald’s racism?

No, I think it’s a poor choice and one that you can easily avoid in future. It skirts really close to racial if not fully over the line.

Maybe as a person of color I might be a little sensitive to racial slurs being thrown around. You know, a lifetime of that shit does tend to get to you after a bit. Is that enough unpacking for you or does I need more justification for you to grace me with your blessings?

“Trumpanzee” or any other possibly racially charged bullshit, especially when we are talking about racism, is not something that needs defending.

Because it’s been a way to dehumanize black people for literal centuries. And it hasn’t gone away as doctored pictures of the Obamas can attest to.

This year GOP groups started making the argument that Kamala Harris and Vivek Ramaswamy are ineligible to be president because you have to be white to be a citizen.

That should be every minority dropping the GOP like a hot rock. For notes on what it looks like if you help the people who want to take your rights away win, watch the first season of Handmaid’s tale. Specifically the subplot of Serena Joy, the commander’s wife. They do not care. The person next to you might care. Your husband might care. Your white friend might care. But the people in charge are going to strip your rights anyways.

      It’s a complex issue.

Some are self hating, some are of a house servant mentality, some believe they will be spared if they kowtow hard enough, some even legit believe in segregation SO HARD they are welcome amongst old rich white men as almost equals.

Some just want lower taxes and don’t care about fascism.

If you really wanted to squint and put your fingers in your ears and hum, you might possibly be able to interpret him as talking about congresspeople.

But he was actually talking about black people, so that isn’t necessary.

This was my take from this as well.

I mean, it’s possible he could have been talking about politicians or government people or something… But he certainly wasn’t. He could have, he did not.

It’s only vague enough to convince those living in a trough of disillusionment to be convinced that he wasn’t blatantly being racist here.

Maybe Republicans would be a reasonable take, although I don’t know anything about this guy to say he’s smart, but Republicans tend to be “not quite so good.”

Obviously, this is not what Trump meant, but also he was a Democrat before he realized how easy Republicans were to dupe, so he is aware of this fact.

“You see, some negroes can be nearly as smart as white folk. It is hard to believe, I know, but it can happen. Then of course you have the rest who act as god intended them to; in a manner to test the strength of the white man’s tolerance.”
    – Trump’s not so subtle subtext.

Obvious racism aside… is this like “bring your hard hat to the rally” day? Get a free mustard dog? Or is he handing these out to people sitting behind him? Or did he hire a bunch of Village People impersonators as extras to increase his crowd size that he cares so much about?

You joke but literally they hire people to be behind him. Usually it is attractive women, POC, working class appearing folk or elderly women. The hard hats probably fit wherever he was speaking trying to claim he’s talking to the working class or something

Last I heard they went through things like local modeling, and talent, casting agencies for most of these. Sometimes you will see ads in papers to appear in political publications, commercials, etc. and it ends up that you are in stuffing a rally, they do use images, and video clips, of the rallies, for promotion, and you will likely be in there, somewhere, so it technically isn’t lying. It is a lot like how movies get extras.

Checkout the fake blue collar workers behind him. Nice clothes are hair + a hard hat. Also, who wears a hart hat to a rally speech? Are they expecting debris to fall from above?

It’s always such a fake ass clown show from this weirdo.

(Edit: that said, the guy on the far left is legit, but the two guys in white dress shirts, and the woman who just hit up the styling wand are hilarious. All those hats are brand new)

I am not offering an excuse but I’d like to explore a reason. One of many that led to Dolt45’s popularity.

He makes stupid people feel justified, and there is no shortage of stupid people.

Additionally, grifters flock to crowds of stupid people, and encourage the stupidity as it makes for riper pickings.

Tribalism makes them feel all warm and good and justified and almost none of them question the good feeling. I mean, they feel like a group now, they got branding and songs and little ear tampon rituals.

We SORELY miss the necessity of ritual in our daily life and for some reason he gives his people rituals they like to participate in and he tells them they are all the good boys and girls and all the bad people that have been mean to them will get bopped on the nose.

      It’s very popular.

Hot Take That Will Make You Downvote Despite Agreeing with the First 80%: A large part of this is due to the demonization of religion by the left, and this has been going on for hundreds of years.

Humans have a religion shaped hole in them that can be filled with any number of things, but it is baked into our psyches and I don’t think we are complete without participation in group shared values rituals.

Funny thing: Sports events hit all the exact same notes so before you ratheists come and reeeee at me, no part of anything I have written is dependent on the existence of a supernatural entity.

Wasn’t joking. Little superstitions fill the same space, so does online co-op shooters, so does ironically playing the sims. Just some do it better than others and the more actual humans involved the more effectively it taps that missing part.
