Derivative.
Shit
“That, I love! I absolutely love.”
“Um, that’s just the coolant tank.”
“Did I ask you, pinkskin?”
Dude, we never see ambiguously “dumb” characters on Star Trek, well excepting Lieutenant Broccoli, so having an odd-ball character who’s really good at one thing, but completely fucked everything else up!? Boom, DeVito
Pakleds!
Pakleds are one of the goofier mono-cultures in Trek. Up there with the Tamarians on my list of “How the hell did this species learn to fly?”. The bottom of the list is the Klingons, only because we know they stole most of their ship tech from the Hur’q.
As for the Tamarians, they’re shown to be a rather advanced species capable of taking on and disabling the Federation flagship. Their method of communication may not be very efficient to the point of conversations and actions take longer than other species. But that shouldn’t hinder their level of intelligence
Yeah, I don’t doubt their intelligence I’m just curious about the more practical problems of society/technology. For example, what do their technical manuals look like? How do you train a new Tamarian recruit on how do maintenance? Or for that matter, how do you pass along technical knowledge at all when all of your language seems to be in the form of specific cultural references? At least with the Pakleds and the Klingons we know the answer - they stole it.
All of them. Let’s make Danny DeVito the next Jeffrey Combs.
Imagine an episode in which DeVito portrays dozens of different guest characters, one from each species that has been featured in the series. Then, the rest of the Sunny gang portrays a merry band of outlaws or something.
My 'shop skills are terrible, so just use your imagination:
Dennis (as Worf): I am not a merry man.

“It’s Always Sunny in the Holodeck” is a crossover I didn’t know I needed until this very second. Bravo. Now I’m picturing Lore going off about being a golden god.
Because of the implication
Boldly Going Nowhere!

Horny Betazoid with a crass personality like on always sunny.
So Lwaxana Troi, but half-in-the-bag
Yes, maybe he could play her grand/father on SNW, give her some more background on why she’s like that.
I vote Ferengi

My vote goes for a generally tall and slender species.
I think he’d play the hell out of a Kelpien for example. Say, Saru’s long lost brother they don’t talk about, at all?
This is probably my favorite idea from this entire thread
Vulcan for sure
Yeah I’m here for the vulcanvito
I vote Risan. Put that man in a swimsuit.

I’ve got the moooooooves
Thank you for your service
Gonna go with a Harry Mudd - Vulcan mashup.
He would just be off-the-street Danny DeVito, and there would be no explanation to what his species is.
But have it be slightly implied he’s an El Aurian, Lanthanite, or something like that.
At the end of the episode, he just vanishes off the ship and no one knows when or how it happened.
An El Aurian that just talks and talks and never listens!
“…in one incredibly long, unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic…”
“…no one had a chance to interrupt…”
I want to see him as a recurring background character of every race!
Also, Jeffrey Combs frequently shows up with DeVito.
This should be an ongoing bit throughout multiple series/movies.
Hah as thinking about options I thought DeVito should show up as whoever Combs is playing, the assistant.
Growing up in the 80s I always liked DeVito overall, from romancing the Stone to Twins, those were just my first recalls of him, assume that gives you an idea of my generation.
I’ll say I haven’t watched much of it’s always sunny in Philadelphia but it endeared me to learn he enjoyed the comedy so much so they did what it took to accomodate him in the series. Which from what I understand was filming all his scenes for a season when he was there over like a few days.
Unless I read incorrectly of course but seem to recall that being a thing at the start at least.
You are right about his making season two’s filming more complex!
Before production of the second season began, series creator Rob McElhenney found out that DeVito was a fan of the show and a friend of FX president, John Landgraf. McElhenney asked Landgraf to set up a meeting. McElhenney met DeVito at his home and pitched DeVito’s character, Frank Reynolds. DeVito agreed to star in the show, but was only available for twenty days. To have Frank Reynolds in all ten episodes of the second season, all of DeVito’s scenes were filmed before filming the remainder of the season.

They ended up filming the entire season out of order to accommodate his schedule, which made for a lot of continuity challenges. They started by recording only every shot that involves DeVito. After they no longer had access to him, they went back to those same scenes and recorded everything else, making sure all the sets/costumes were the same as they were during the DeVito shoots.

Starts talking about this around 2:35
I want Jeffrey Combs to guest star in the same episode, portraying Danny DeVito. It is revealed he had been cryogenically frozen before death and only now was revived (similar to the ancient humans who were thawed/healed in TNG S1E26 “The Neutral Zone”)
I’d watch it.
I want to see him as all the characters in a single episode.
Tribble.
Lol how would you make that work? Have him voice the squeaks??
CGI the face onto each.
He’s prob too old to do the pyhsical acting ala https://coub.com/view/bffar
Talaxian.
Klingon.
